Full-disk backup for macOSNative SwiftUI100% on device

Your whole Mac, copied the moment you press Go.

Mirrorr copies every file on your disk to a second drive. No survey phase, no progress bar that sits at 99% for twenty minutes. If power cuts out mid-copy, the previous good copy is still intact.

v1.0.0 · macOS 13+, including 27 Golden Gate · Apple Silicon & Intel · Signed & notarized by Apple · No account

01  How it works

One button. Your entire disk.

Pick a source, pick a destination, press Go. Mirrorr starts copying immediately and finishes as fast as the drives allow.

Starts instantly
No survey phase. No indexing pass. Mirrorr begins copying the first file the moment you press Go, while it discovers the rest in the background.
No waiting
Crash-safe
Every file is written to a temporary name and atomically renamed into place. If power fails mid-copy, the previous good version of every file is still there, untouched.
Atomic writes
APFS snapshots
Before each run, Mirrorr takes a read-only APFS snapshot of the source volume. The backup sees a frozen-in-time view of the disk, even if files change while the copy runs.
Point-in-time
Scheduled backups
Set a schedule and Mirrorr runs it unattended. Scheduled runs work even before anyone logs in, because the backup engine runs as a system service, not as your user account.
Unattended
Full system access
A root-level daemon handles the actual copying, so every file on the disk is reachable, including system files, other users' home folders, and anything with restricted permissions.
Root daemon
Secure by design
The daemon accepts commands only from the signed Mirrorr app, verified by code-signing requirement over XPC. Nothing else on the system can talk to it.
XPC + code signing
100% on your Mac
No account, no cloud, no usage tracking. Mirrorr copies files from one local drive to another. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing about your files leaves your computer.
Privacy
Universal binary
One download runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens with a double-click.

Download Mirrorr for macOS, Free

Version 1.0.0 - Released October 2026 - Free updates forever

macOS 13 Ventura or later, including macOS 27 Golden Gate - Apple Silicon or Intel
Everything Mirrorr needs is built right into the app: native SwiftUI, nothing else to set up. One universal build runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel.
Opens with a double-click
Mirrorr is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens cleanly the first time: no Open Anyway trip through System Settings, no Terminal. Open the DMG, drag Mirrorr into Applications, and launch it.
One approval for system access
Mirrorr installs a small background service that runs as root, so it can read every file on your disk. macOS asks for your administrator password once to install it. That is the only privilege escalation, and you only do it once.
Your files stay on your drives
Mirrorr copies from one local volume to another. Nothing is uploaded, no account is created, and the only network connection the app ever makes is an optional update check about once a week, which you can switch off.
Check the file you downloaded
Mirrorr is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, and macOS checks that every time you open it. That is the check that catches a file altered on its way to you. To confirm it yourself, compare the SHA-256 of your copy with the one published for the Mirrorr.dmg this page serves.
SHA-256 checksum
Published checksum
Run this on your download and compare
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Mirrorr.dmg

Or have your Mac compare them for you: save Mirrorr.dmg.sha256 beside the download and run shasum -a 256 -c Mirrorr.dmg.sha256.

04  FAQ

Common questions.

Is Mirrorr really free?
Personal use is free forever: the full app, every feature, no account, no trial timer, no nag screens. If you use Mirrorr at work, a one-time $15 business license per device keeps it supported.
How is this different from Time Machine?
Time Machine keeps incremental snapshots so you can go back to a file as it was last Tuesday. Mirrorr makes a plain copy of your entire disk: what you have now, on a second drive, right now. If your Mac dies, the backup drive has your files in a normal folder structure you can browse from any computer. They solve different problems and can run side by side.
What happens if power fails during a backup?
Every file is written to a temporary name first, then atomically renamed into place once the write finishes. If power cuts out, the rename never happened and the previous good copy of that file is still there, untouched. The next run picks up where this one left off.
Can Mirrorr back up to a network drive?
Mirrorr copies to any mounted volume macOS can see, which includes network shares mounted through Finder or the command line. Performance depends on your network speed, but the crash-safety guarantees depend on the remote filesystem honoring renames, which most NAS appliances do.
Does Mirrorr need Full Disk Access?
No. The backup engine runs as a root-level system service, which already has access to every file. You do not need to grant Full Disk Access in System Settings. The only approval macOS asks for is the administrator password to install the service, once.
What does the APFS snapshot do?
Before each run, Mirrorr asks the filesystem for a read-only snapshot of the source volume. The backup then reads from that frozen-in-time view rather than the live disk, so files that change while the copy runs do not cause inconsistencies. The snapshot is deleted when the run finishes.
Does Mirrorr upload anything?
No. Everything stays on your Mac and your backup drive. The only network connection Mirrorr ever makes is an optional check for a newer version, about once a week, which you can switch off in Settings. No account, no analytics, no telemetry.
Can I schedule backups?
Yes. Set a schedule in the app and Mirrorr runs it unattended, even before anyone logs in. The backup engine is a system service, so it does not need your user session to be active.

Also by the same solo developer Copyr Mirrorr backs up the whole disk. Copyr handles the one copy that has to survive: it skips bad files, resumes mid-transfer, and verifies every byte. Free for personal use.
