01 How it works
Install. Allow. Press ⌃⌥←.
Drag it into Applications
Open the DMG, drag Snapr across, launch it. It lives in the menu bar: no Dock icon, and you can hide the icon too without losing the hotkeys.
Grant Accessibility, once
Moving another app's windows is impossible without it, and macOS offers no narrower permission. The guided first run detects the grant the moment you flip the switch.
Use the shortcuts you already know
Defaults are ⌃⌥ plus a key (Rectangle's keymap), so there's nothing to relearn. Press ⌃⌥/ any time for the full cheat sheet, over whatever you're working in.
Save the layout once
Arrange your windows the way you like them and save it. From then on, docking or undocking that display restores the arrangement automatically and proportionally, so it lands correctly on a smaller screen.

It tells you when it can't.
The failure mode of every window manager is a shortcut that quietly does nothing, leaving you unable to tell a wrong keypress from a broken app. Snapr always says which it was.
A reason, not silence
No eligible window, an app on the ignore list, or a window that refuses to resize each produce a brief on-screen message (spoken aloud for VoiceOver) instead of a shortcut that looks broken.

The zone map is yours to draw
Settings › Snap Areas is an editable map of the screen's perimeter, not a picture of one. Point any corner or edge at any of 31 tiles, or switch that zone off. Cut an edge into up to five sections so one edge offers several sizes depending on where you let go, and set how much of each edge its corners claim. Five ready-made maps come with it, and the default is exactly what Snapr always did, so nothing moves until you decide it should.

Undo the setting you didn't mean to change
Binding a key that another command already uses has to take it away from that command, and used to do so with nothing on screen saying which one. A rebinding that displaces another command, clearing a key, Restore Defaults and an import that replaces everything now each leave a banner naming what happened, with Undo and ⌘Z beside it.

Focus the window to your left, right, above or below without moving anything. Where two are equally far off, the one lined up with you wins, so moving right from a top half lands on the top-right window, not on whichever is a pixel closer.

Wider, Narrower, Taller and Shorter adjust a split without disturbing the other dimension: widening a left half leaves its height exactly where it was. Larger and Smaller still move both when that is what you want.

Turn it off mid-session and everything stops, so Snapr watches for that rather than only checking at the moment it is about to move something. A revocation says what happened and where to turn it back on, and the moment you do, the shortcuts and drag-to-snap come back on their own, with no relaunch.

Common questions.
Is Snapr really free?
Personal use is free forever: all 60 commands, every layout feature, no key, no account, no trial timer, no nag screens. If you use Snapr at work, a one-time $5 business license per device keeps it supported.
How is this different from Rectangle or Magnet?
Snapr uses Rectangle's default keymap (⌃⌥ plus a key), so muscle memory carries straight over. What it adds is the parts those stop short of: saved layouts that restore automatically when you dock or undock, drag-to-snap with a live animated preview, Tile All for arranging everything at once, and a cheat sheet on ⌃⌥/.
What sizes can it snap to?
Halves, thirds, two-thirds, quarters, fourths, three-fourths and sixths. Press the same direction again and it cycles: ⌃⌥← steps ½ → ⅔ → ⅓. There's also Maximize, Maximize Height, Maximize Width, Almost Maximize, Center, grow and shrink, nudge in any direction, and undo/redo for window changes.
Does it work with multiple displays?
Yes. Move a window to the next or previous display, to the one physically left, right, up or down, or straight to display 1-4, keeping its relative position and size. Layouts are stored as proportions rather than pixels, so an arrangement captured on a 5K display restores correctly onto a laptop screen.
What happens when I undock my laptop?
If you've saved a layout for that arrangement of displays, Snapr restores it the moment a display comes or goes. That's the feature most people are actually looking for when they go hunting for a window manager.
Does drag-to-snap get in the way of normal dragging?
It only arms once a window is genuinely being moved, so clicks and text selections never trigger it. Edge sensitivity is adjustable, and there's an optional hold-a-modifier mode. Hold ⌘ to suppress a snap mid-drag when it's set to always-on.
Can I change the shortcuts?
All 60 of them, to any combination, with live conflict detection and one-click restore-to-defaults. Snapr also flags a binding macOS refused because another app already owns it, instead of leaving you pressing a key that does nothing.
What about Stage Manager?
Snapr reserves the Stage Manager strip instead of tiling windows underneath it. macOS exposes no API for that strip's frame, so the reservation is an estimate, which is why it's adjustable and can be switched off rather than silently wrong.
What if a window won't move?
You get a brief on-screen message saying why (no eligible window, an ignored app, or a window that refuses to resize), and VoiceOver speaks it. A shortcut that silently does nothing is indistinguishable from a broken app. Sheets, dialogs, popovers and minimized windows are deliberately never moved.
Can I stop it touching certain apps?
Yes. There's an ignore list for VMs, games and remote-desktop sessions, the three things a window manager reliably breaks.
What languages does Snapr speak?

Can I change what dragging to an edge does?

An edge can be cut into as many as five sections, so one edge offers several sizes depending on where along it you let go, and you decide how much of each edge its corners claim. There are five ready-made maps, plus Turn Every Zone Off for anyone who wants the keyboard and nothing else. The default map is exactly what Snapr has always done, and the map travels with settings export.
What if I rebind a key another command was using?
Snapr takes it off the other command (it has to, or two commands would fight over one key), and now it tells you which one, in a banner with an Undo button and ⌘Z beside it. The same goes for clearing a key, Restore Defaults, and importing settings over the top of yours. It is one step back rather than a history, and it is deliberately not kept across a relaunch: an undo offered the next morning describes a change nobody remembers making.
Does Snapr need Accessibility access?
