How to play
Operations gives you a row of numbers with empty slots between them. Fill every slot so the row reads as something true. The equals sign is one of the signs you place, so you decide where the two sides meet.
Every slot is a dial.
- Tap a slot to step to the next sign.
- Swipe up or down on a slot to spin through the signs.
The list wraps, so no sign is ever more than one movement away. There is no keypad and no menu. The readout under the row shows what the two sides currently come to, so you can see how close you are before committing.
Modes
Easy is two operands, like 1 + 3 = 4, and always has an answer with the equals sign on the right. Medium is three. Hard is four, and on a phone the row stands on its side so it still fits without the screen scrolling sideways.
Choosing which operations appear
Tap any of the four signs in the strip below the row to switch it off. Leave only addition and a young child can play the same game you do. Puzzles are generated to be solvable with exactly the signs you left on, so the game never deals a row that needs something you switched off.
Why will it not let me switch off the last one?
A row with no arithmetic has nothing to solve. The last remaining operation refuses to switch off and shakes to say so. The equals sign is always available for the same reason: without one, a row is an expression rather than a statement.
Show solution
Fills in one correct answer. It does not score the puzzle and it ends your streak, because you did not solve it. There is usually more than one right answer; this is only the one the generator knows about.
Resetting your score
Tap the score at the top right and confirm. That clears the running count straight away. It cannot be undone, which is why it asks first.
Accessibility
- VoiceOver and TalkBack read the whole statement, not a list of fragments, and every slot can be changed without sight: on iPhone and iPad by swiping up and down on it, on Android through the two named actions in the rotor.
- Dynamic Type is honored. At the larger accessibility sizes the row lays itself out down the screen instead of across.
- Reduce Motion stops the drifting starfield, the celebration, and the shake. Nothing is lost: a wrong row is still shown by its color and by the readout.
- Contrast is held to WCAG 2.1 AA by an automated test rather than by eye, on both platforms.
