Keep Your PC Awake. For Exactly As Long As You Say.

Click the tray icon, pick a duration, and Wakr holds your PC awake (no idle sleep, no display sleep, no screen saver) using the same power request Windows itself makes to keep an active download or render job from being interrupted. Turn it off, or let the timer run out, and your PC goes right back to normal.

01  How it works

Click the icon. Forget about it.

Find it in the tray
Wakr lives in the notification area: no window, no taskbar entry, nothing to Alt-Tab to. WinB focuses the tray if you'd rather use the keyboard.
Pick a duration
Right-click for the full menu: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, or indefinitely until you turn it off. Left-click just toggles (awake indefinitely, or back off) for the common case in one click.
Your PC stays awake
No idle sleep, no display sleep, no screen saver. The glyph flips to a sun, and hovering the icon shows a live countdown in the tooltip.
Turn it off any time
Click the icon again, or choose Turn Off (Let PC Sleep) from the menu. Let a timed session run out and Wakr turns itself off, no action needed.

02  Features

Small utility, done right.

One glyph in your system tray, exactly the controls you need. Nothing else running, nothing ever sent anywhere.

Lives in your system tray
No window, no taskbar button, no Alt-Tab entry. Right-click the icon for the full menu, or left-click to just toggle Wakr on and off.
Duration presets
15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, or indefinitely until you turn it off or quit. Pick a new one any time to restart the clock.
One click to toggle
Left-click the tray icon: awake indefinitely, or back off. The most common action in the app takes exactly one click. Right-click if you want a specific duration instead.
Live countdown tooltip
Hover the tray icon for the exact time remaining on a timed session (the same information the menu's status line shows), and it now updates live instead of freezing at whatever it read when the icon was created.
Sun and moon, matched to your taskbar
A sun while a session is active, a crescent moon once your PC is free to sleep again, rendered in white or black to match your taskbar's light or dark theme automatically.
Launch Wakr at Login
Toggle it once and Wakr is back in your tray every time you sign in (a per-user setting, so it needs no administrator rights).
Dialogs that say what they do
Every prompt is a native task dialog with real button labels ("Yes, I like it," "Install 1.3.0," "Remove License") instead of a generic Yes/No message box. Screen readers announce the actual action, and the dialogs pick up Windows 11's rounded corners and Wakr's own icon.
Fully keyboard-reachable
WinB focuses the tray, Enter toggles Wakr, Menu or ShiftF10 opens the full menu: a tray icon a keyboard user can actually operate, not just click past. A Keyboard Shortcuts item in the menu lists every route.
Keyboard
13 languages
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (BR), Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean, with Auto to follow your Windows display language. Every menu item, notification and dialog re-titles instantly, no restart, using each language's own Windows vocabulary for sleep.
13 languages
Sharp on high-DPI displays
Wakr opts into per-monitor DPI awareness, so dialogs are drawn crisply at 150% and 200% scaling instead of being bitmap-stretched by Windows.
Updates itself in place
A silent weekly check (toggle it off any time) badges the menu when a new version exists, never a pop-up. Choosing to install downloads the new installer, verifies its Authenticode signature and version before running anything, installs over itself, and reopens.
Self-updating
No usage analytics, no tracking
Your keep-awake sessions never touch the network. No account, no usage analytics. The only call Wakr makes is an optional weekly update check.

04  Beta

You're testing the Windows build.

Wakr has been on the Mac for a while. The Windows build carries the same core (the same durations, the same sun/moon state icon, the same live countdown) rebuilt on native Win32 APIs, plus a few things purpose-built for a tray-only app: a keyboard-reachable icon, self-describing task dialogs, and self-updating in place.

What would help most

Sleep & wake, for real

Put your PC to sleep and wake it, lock and unlock, let the display time out overnight. Does an active session (and its countdown) survive intact?

The tray icon itself

Does the sun/moon glyph render clearly in both light and dark taskbar themes, and at different display scaling? Is it easy to find if you keep icons hidden in the overflow tray?

The install itself

Whether SmartScreen let you through, whether the shortcut and tray icon look right, whether uninstall leaves anything behind.

Keyboard & language

If you drive Wakr from the keyboard, use a screen reader, or run Windows in a language other than English, tell me anything that doesn't track or doesn't translate.

Download Wakr for Windows, Free

Version 1.3.1 beta · Wakr-Setup.exe · about 14 MB · Free updates forever

Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11 · 64-bit
Wakr is a native tray app (a Win32 menu and native dialogs, not a browser window), so there's no separate runtime to chase down. Everything it needs is bundled inside the installer.
No admin rights needed
Wakr installs per-user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Wakr, so there's no UAC prompt and no argument with your IT department. Uninstall from Settings → Apps → Installed apps like anything else.
Windows may warn you the first time. Here's the honest story.
Wakr is Authenticode-signed, so the publisher shows as a real, verified name rather than "Unknown publisher." But signing alone does not switch SmartScreen off: Microsoft builds reputation per file, and a brand-new build starts with none. Until this exact file has been downloaded enough times, you may still see a blue "Windows protected your PC" box.
  1. Click More info
  2. Check the publisher name shown
  3. Click Run anyway
I'd rather tell you this up front than have you wonder. Never click through that box for software you don't trust the source of.

08  FAQ

Common questions.

Is Wakr really free?
Personal use is free forever: every duration, no account, no trial timer, no watermarks. It is free for commercial use at work too, with no license to buy and no account.
Does Wakr upload anything?
Your keep-awake sessions never touch the network. Wakr makes one narrowly-scoped call and no others: a weekly check-for-updates request (on by default, turn it off any time from the tray menu). No usage analytics, no tracking, no account.
What does "Until Wakr Quits" mean?
Wakr keeps your PC awake indefinitely (no fixed timer) until you choose Turn Off (Let PC Sleep), quit Wakr, or your PC restarts.
How do I know Wakr is running?
Look at the tray icon: a sun means a session is active, a crescent moon means your PC is free to sleep normally. Hover it for a tooltip with the exact status, including a live countdown on timed sessions.
Why did Windows show a blue "protected your PC" warning?
Because the file is new, not because it's unsigned. SmartScreen builds trust per file over downloads and time, and a fresh build starts from zero. Code signing gives you a verified publisher name in the dialog but does not skip it. Click More info → check the publisher → Run anyway. See the install section for the full explanation.
How do I update Wakr?
It updates itself. Wakr quietly checks about once a week and badges the menu when there's something new (never a pop-up), and you can turn the check off. Choosing to install downloads the new installer, verifies its signature and version before running anything, installs over itself and reopens. If any of those checks fail, it deletes the download and sends you here instead. Your settings carry over.
How is this different from the Mac version?
The core is the same app: the same duration presets, the same sun/moon state icon, the same live countdown, holding your PC awake through native OS power APIs rather than a background hack. Windows adds a couple of things the Mac build doesn't have: a Keyboard Shortcuts item covering every keyboard route into the app, and self-updating in place (the Mac build currently asks you to re-download by hand). Going the other way, a few duration options on the Mac build (typing a custom length, staying awake until a specific clock time, tying a session to a running app, and an automatic low-battery cutoff) aren't in the Windows build yet.
Where do my settings live, and what does uninstalling remove?
Preferences sit in %APPDATA%\Wakr. Uninstalling removes the app from %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Wakr and cleans up the "Launch Wakr at Login" entry; delete the preferences folder too if you want every trace gone. Nothing is written outside your user account.

Wakr compared with other keep-awake apps on Windows

Wakr holds your PC awake (no idle sleep, no display sleep, no screen saver) for a duration you set. This is a well-served category on Windows, and the best-known option is free and made by Microsoft.

Prices and capabilities checked October 2026. Each maker’s own site is the authority on its side of this table.

When to use something else

PowerToys Awake is free, it is made by Microsoft, and it does the core job well. You can keep the PC awake for a set time or indefinitely, keep the screen on, and toggle it from the system tray, all without changing your power plan. If you already run PowerToys, you may not need anything else. Caffeine by Zhorn Software is free and tiny, and sits in the tray as a coffee pot. Neither offers the app, network or battery triggers that Mac tools like Amphetamine are known for, and neither does Wakr. Wakr is here for people who want a duration, a click, and nothing to configure. It is free for personal use too.

If this is what you came here to solve

My PC sleeps in the middle of a long download or render
Start a session for as long as you need; it ends by itself, so you cannot leave it on for a week.
I am presenting and the screen saver keeps appearing
Display sleep and the screen saver are held off for the duration, not just idle sleep.
I want it awake with the lid shut
That is governed by Windows' own 'When I close the lid' power setting, not something the app overrides.
