Terms of Service
1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Stapl for Windows, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use Stapl.
These Terms form a legal agreement between you and twoplus11 LLC, a Missouri limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our").
2. The Application
Stapl is a Windows PDF toolkit that merges, splits, organizes, rotates, compresses, OCRs, protects, unlocks, redacts, watermarks, numbers, crops, edits metadata, converts to and from images, and fills & signs PDF documents, entirely on your own PC. It is distributed from twoplus11.com/stapl/windows.
3. Beta Software
THIS IS A PRE-RELEASE ("BETA") BUILD OF STAPL FOR WINDOWS, MADE AVAILABLE FOR EVALUATION AND TESTING. IT MAY CONTAIN DEFECTS AND MAY BEHAVE UNEXPECTEDLY. DO NOT RELY ON IT AS THE SOLE TOOL FOR A DOCUMENT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE OR GET WRONG: BEFORE RELYING ON A REDACTION, CONVERSION, OR ANY OTHER RESULT, VERIFY IT INDEPENDENTLY, AND KEEP BACKUPS OF ANY FILE YOU CARE ABOUT. WE MAY CHANGE, SUSPEND, OR WITHDRAW THE BETA AT ANY TIME.
Feedback you send us about the beta may be used to improve Stapl without restriction or obligation to you. Please do not include confidential material in a bug report. Send a description or a redacted example rather than the sensitive document itself.
4. License
Personal License (Free)
We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Stapl on your personal computers for non-commercial purposes. Personal use means use by an individual for personal, non-revenue-generating activities. The personal tier is the complete application: every tool, no locked features, trial timers, or watermarks.
Commercial Use (Free)
You may also use Stapl in connection with any business, employment, commercial, or revenue-generating activity, on as many computers as you like. There is no license to buy, no seat to count, and no account to create. It is the same complete application, with no locked features, trial timers, or watermarks.
Your license is personal and non-transferable. You may not transfer, sublicense, or assign it to another person or entity.
5. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- Distribute, sell, rent, lease, or sublicense Stapl to any third party
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Stapl except where expressly permitted by applicable law
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
- Use Stapl for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Use Stapl to process documents you do not have the right to process
6. Third-Party Components
Stapl for Windows bundles open-source components used to process your documents on-device, including Ghostscript (used for compression and for rendering pages to and from images) and Tesseract (used for OCR). Stapl also uses the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which the installer can set up for you and which is a Microsoft component governed by Microsoft's own terms. These components are the property of their respective authors and are governed by their own licenses, the full texts of which ship inside the application. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under those licenses.
7. Intellectual Property
Stapl, its design, original code, and all associated intellectual property rights (excluding the third-party components described above) are owned by twoplus11 LLC. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the application. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
8. Updates and Availability
We may release updates to Stapl that add features, fix bugs, or change behavior. Updates are free for the lifetime of your license. In this beta, Stapl checks for updates automatically about once a week and tells you when a new version exists; installing it means downloading and running the new installer yourself. You can turn the automatic check off entirely in the app. We reserve the right to discontinue Stapl at any time without notice, though existing installations will remain functional.
9. Payments and Refunds
Stapl is free, for personal and commercial use alike: there is nothing to buy, no license key to pay for and no subscription. A tip is the only thing this page will ever take payment for, and it is a voluntary gift rather than a purchase: it buys no feature, no license and no support commitment, and Stapl is identical whether you leave one or not. Tips are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. Because a tip buys nothing, tips are not refundable, though if you tipped by mistake write to jeremy@twoplus11.com and we'll send it back.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
STAPL IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT STAPL WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR PRODUCE A PERFECT RESULT FOR EVERY DOCUMENT, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE ACCURACY OF OCR TEXT OR THE COMPLETENESS OF A REDACTION. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING IMPORTANT RESULTS AND FOR KEEPING BACKUPS OF YOUR DOCUMENTS.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TWOPLUS11 LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF STAPL SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR LICENSE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY DOLLARS ($50 USD).
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Missouri.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of Stapl after any revision constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
