Terms of Service
1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Shelfr, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use Shelfr.
These Terms form a legal agreement between you and twoplus11 LLC, a Missouri limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our").
2. The Application
Shelfr is a macOS application that sideloads ebooks onto e-readers. It reads the ebooks you add (their cover and metadata), organizes them into a library, detects a connected reader such as a Kindle, Kobo, or Nook, converts a book into a format that reader supports where it can, and copies the book onto the reader — all on your own Mac. It is distributed from twoplus11.com/shelfr.
Shelfr does not remove or circumvent digital rights management (DRM). It is intended for use with ebooks you are legally entitled to copy — such as your own files, DRM-free purchases, and public-domain works. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to copy and convert any book you use with Shelfr.
3. License
Personal License (Free)
We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Shelfr on your personal computers for non-commercial purposes. Personal use means use by an individual for personal, non-revenue-generating activities. The personal tier is the complete application — there are no locked features, trial timers, or nag screens.
Commercial License ($5 per device, one-time)
If you use Shelfr in connection with any business, employment, commercial, or revenue-generating activity, you must purchase a Commercial License for each device on which Shelfr is installed. A Commercial License covers one device for the lifetime of the software. You may purchase a Commercial License at twoplus11.com/business.
Your license is personal and non-transferable. You may not transfer, sublicense, or assign it to another person or entity.
4. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- Distribute, sell, rent, lease, or sublicense Shelfr to any third party
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Shelfr except where expressly permitted by applicable law
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
- Use Shelfr for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Use Shelfr to copy, convert, or distribute any book you do not own or are not legally authorized to reproduce, or to circumvent any technological protection measure
5. Third-Party Components
Shelfr bundles the Sparkle update framework, which powers the in-app "check for updates" feature and is used under its own permissive open-source license; a copy of that license is included with the application. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under it.
Calibre is optional and is not bundled with Shelfr. To write certain Kindle formats (MOBI and AZW3), Shelfr can invoke a separate copy of Calibre — free, open-source software published under the GNU General Public License v3 — only if you have installed it yourself. Shelfr runs Calibre's command-line converter at arm's length as a separate program; it does not incorporate, modify, or redistribute Calibre. Your use of Calibre is governed by Calibre's own license and terms, not these Terms. If Calibre is not installed, the affected conversions are simply unavailable, and Shelfr links you to Calibre's site so you can choose to install it.
6. Intellectual Property
Shelfr, its design, original code, and all associated intellectual property rights — excluding any third-party components — are owned by twoplus11 LLC. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the application. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
7. Updates and Availability
We may release updates to Shelfr that add features, fix bugs, or change behavior. Updates are free for the lifetime of your license. We reserve the right to discontinue Shelfr at any time without notice, though existing downloads will remain functional.
8. Payments and Refunds
Commercial License purchases are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. Your license key is emailed to you immediately after payment. All sales are final. If you experience a technical issue that prevents Shelfr from working on your machine, contact us at jeremy@twoplus11.com and we'll work to resolve it or issue a refund at our discretion.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
SHELFR IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT SHELFR WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. SHELFR COPIES FILES TO CONNECTED DEVICES AND CAN CONVERT BOOKS BETWEEN FORMATS AT YOUR REQUEST; ALTHOUGH TRANSFERS ARE WRITTEN SAFELY AND SHELFR DOES NOT DELETE YOUR ORIGINALS, YOU REMAIN RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING BACKUPS OF YOUR BOOKS AND FOR SAFELY EJECTING YOUR DEVICES.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TWOPLUS11 LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF SHELFR SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR LICENSE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY DOLLARS ($50 USD).
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Missouri.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of Shelfr after any revision constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
