Release notes
Changelog
Why this starts at 1.0.0. The Mac build has its own longer history and is further along in its
numbering (it's at 1.4.0). Windows starts its own version line at 1.0.0 rather than pretending to a past it
doesn't have. The two builds share a conversion engine design and a license key, not a version number.

Beta
August 18, 2026
First Windows release. Most of what the Mac build converts, rebuilt on Windows APIs, plus the fit & finish a native Windows app needs. Two things the Mac build already has aren't here yet; see Known in this beta.
The engine
- Images: HEIC, JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, TIFF, GIF and BMP, plus PDF and ICO export, read and written by Pillow and pillow-heif, the Windows stand-in for the sips/ImageIO engine the Mac build uses for stills.
- Audio & video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, M4V and AVI video; MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, OPUS and AIFF audio, handled by the identical bundled FFmpeg engine the Mac build uses, so results match.
- Combine images into one PDF, reimplemented on Pillow in place of the PDFKit/AppKit engine the Mac build uses for the same job.
- Fit size: a two-pass encode that aims a video (or a photo) just under a KB/MB target, adjusting quality automatically.
- Strip EXIF & GPS and Keep original dates options, sticky per-extension target memory, live batch progress, and media dimensions/duration shown on each card.
- Fixed: still→GIF resize, and friendlier errors on empty or corrupt source files.
Windows fit & finish
- Per-user install into
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Morphr: no UAC prompt, no admin rights. The installer's version now derives from the repo's singleVERSIONfile instead of being set by hand. - Self-update in place, the job Sparkle does on the Mac: Morphr downloads the new installer, verifies its Authenticode signature and that its version matches what was advertised, installs over itself and reopens. A silent weekly check badges the update button without freezing the app behind a modal.
- Fixed: Morphr was offering Windows users a macOS update it could never install. The update feed is now platform-specific instead of shared with the Mac build.
- Business license support, with a "Name this computer" device name at activation and Help/Review links in the footer.
- Appearance setting: Auto/Light/Dark, persisted across launches, with a dark title bar to match.
- Correct taskbar and title-bar icon: the window is born with the real Morphr icon and its App User Model ID set before the window is created, rather than patched in after.
- Adopted the shared twoplus11 design system and its canonical footer (License · Updates · Help · Review · Tip · Shortcuts), plus a once-only tip-support prompt.
- Stop button and a clickable empty-state drop zone; open completed files straight from their card; a savings count-up and staggered card entrance in the queue.
Language & accessibility
- 13 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (BR), Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean, with Windows-native wording and the Segoe UI Variable font stack throughout, not an inherited Apple one.
- WCAG 2.1 AA: contrast, Windows High Contrast mode, reflow with no horizontal scrolling, and icon semantics for assistive tech, plus keyboard Delete and double-click-to-open.
- Fixed: the wordmark's "plus" now uses a theme-aware, contrast-checked color instead of a hardcoded one that failed WCAG AA.
Known in this beta
- Document-to-Markdown conversion (Word, RTF, ODT, PDF, PowerPoint, Excel) and the .m4r ringtone maker are on the Mac build but haven't been ported to Windows yet.
- Camera RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW and similar) aren't supported yet: Pillow can't decode most RAW formats the way macOS's own image engine can.
- SmartScreen may still warn on first download despite the signature; reputation builds per file. See the install notes.
- No screen-reader pass with Narrator or NVDA has been done by a human yet. The accessibility work is tested structurally and audited with axe-core, but assistive technology has not driven the app end to end. If you use one, that feedback is the most valuable thing you could send.
