Release notes
Changelog
Why this is one entry. This fork's version has stayed at 1.1.0 since a July 16, 2026
bump, while development continued underneath it without a further version-number commit. Rather than
inventing release boundaries that were never tagged, this page groups everything shipped under 1.1.0
into one entry. The Mac build has its own longer history and numbering; the two share an engine and a
license key, not a version number.

1.1.0
Beta
Current as of August 18, 2026
First public Windows build. The same yt-dlp / ffmpeg / SponsorBlock engine as the Mac app, continuously fit to Windows since this app's June 2026 rename from its old internal name. This entry covers everything that landed under the 1.1.0 version line.
The engine
- Universal downloads via bundled
yt-dlp.exe: YouTube and 1,800+ other sites, video (MP4) or audio-only (MP3) with cover art embedded automatically. - Smart Trim: sponsor, self-promo, intro and outro segments tagged by the community SponsorBlock database are cut before the file is saved, automatically on YouTube.
- Quality presets: Best Quality, 4K, 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p for video; Best Quality (VBR), 320, 192, 128 kbps for audio. Separate video and audio streams are merged automatically.
- Clip by timestamp: download just a start-to-end section of a video instead of the whole thing.
- Subtitles: human or auto-generated, written as
.srtsidecar files in the language or languages you choose. - Playlists, channels & bulk links: drop a list of links, or a
.txtfile of them, and every one is queued; duplicates already in your history are skipped. - Speed limit and an opt-in cookies.txt file for login-walled, age-restricted or members-only content.
Queue & history
- Up to 3 downloads in parallel instead of one at a time.
- The queue survives a restart and offers to resume unfinished downloads on next launch.
- Download history: searchable, sortable by title, site, date or size, exportable as JSON.
- Copy-log button on each queue card; a lifetime download-count stat in the sidebar.
Windows fit & finish
- Per-user install into
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Grabbr: no UAC prompt, no admin rights. - Real taskbar and title-bar icon, and a native frame that follows the app's Light/Dark/System appearance toggle.
- Adopted the fleet-wide generated design theme and the canonical License/Updates/Help/Review/Tip/ Shortcuts footer, retiring a set of local one-off patches that had drifted from the rest of the twoplus11 apps.
- Self-update in place: Grabbr downloads the new installer, verifies its Authenticode signature and that its version matches what was advertised, installs over itself and reopens. Any check that fails deletes the download and points you at this page instead.
- Fixed the Windows update feed itself: earlier builds could tell a Windows user an update was
ready and then hand them the macOS
.dmg, or report the wrong running version in the check. Both are corrected.
Browser extension
- Chrome/Brave/Edge extension: installs unpacked (it isn't in the Chrome Web Store yet) and sends the current tab's URL to Grabbr via Ctrl Shift Y or its toolbar popup.
- An onboarding banner walks through enabling Developer mode and loading the extension; a footer
Reinstall Ext button refreshes the copy at
%USERPROFILE%\GrabbrBrowserExtensionif it ever goes missing or falls out of date.
Language & accessibility
- 13 languages (German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Simplified Chinese), detected from the Windows display-language list, with a picker in the sidebar. 342 translation keys, including the strings the interface builds dynamically in JavaScript rather than just the static template.
- WCAG 2.1 AA: full keyboard path with a visible focus ring, a skip link past the sidebar, live status announcements, Windows High Contrast support, and measured contrast in both light and dark.
Known in this beta
- Cookie-based access to restricted content is a manual
cookies.txtimport, not the Mac build's automatic multi-browser detection: Windows encrypts browser cookie stores in a way Grabbr can't silently read. - Smart Trim cuts segments; it does not yet offer the Mac build's "mark as chapters instead" alternative.
- SmartScreen may still warn on first download despite the signature; reputation builds per file. See the install notes.
- No screen-reader pass with Narrator or NVDA has been done by a human yet. The accessibility work is tested structurally, but assistive technology has not driven the app end to end. If you use one, that feedback is the most valuable thing you could send.
