GifMint lives in your system tray. Record the full screen, a single window, or drag-select any area, then trim, copy, and paste a crisp animated GIF anywhere. No export queue. No timeline. No megabytes.
The panel: it opens from the tray and closes when you are done.
How it works
Pick a mode. Record. Paste.
1
Pick a mode
Click the tray icon and choose Screen, Window (a searchable thumbnail grid of every open window), or Area (drag out any rectangle). Tune frame rate and resolution first if you like.
2
Countdown, then record
An optional countdown gives you time to get positioned. A small floating HUD tracks elapsed time and frame count while you record. Press Win Shift G or click Stop to finish.
3
Trim and preview
Stop recording and the animated preview opens instantly. Drag the trim handles to cut the start or end, and flip on Reverse or Boomerang playback without re-recording anything.
4
Copy or drag anywhere
Press C to copy the GIF to your clipboard and paste into Slack, Teams, email, or GitHub. Press S to save, or just drag the finished GIF straight into another app's window.
Features
Built for sharing, not editing suites.
No timelines, no export queues, no multi-gigabyte screen recordings. Record, trim, copy, paste. Done.
🖥️
Three capture modes
Grab the full screen, pick any open window from a searchable thumbnail grid, or drag-select a precise area, complete with a dashed guide border and a live dimension readout as you drag.
🎚️
Tune before you record
Frame rate from 5-24 fps and resolution from 25-100% scale, both live-updating the exact output pixel size. Pick settings that will produce a large file and GifMint warns you before you start.
⏰
Countdown & auto-stop
An optional lead-in countdown (1-30s) gives you time to get positioned, and an auto-stop timer (5-300s) ends the recording for you. No watching the clock mid-demo.
🎞️
Trim, reverse, or loop backward
Drag the trim handles to cut the start and end after the fact. Flip on Reverse to play the clip backward, or Boomerang to play it forward-then-back, no re-recording required.

🖼️
Grab a single frame as PNG
Right-click any frame in the preview to copy or save just that frame as a PNG, useful when the GIF told you exactly which moment you actually wanted.
⌨️
Global hotkey
Press Win Shift G from anywhere on your PC to start recording with your last-used settings. Press it again to stop. No need to find the tray icon first.
📌
Lives in your system tray
GifMint sits quietly in the tray, not the taskbar. Click the icon for the control panel, or launch it at sign-in so it's already there when you need it.
📋
Copy, drag, or save
Auto-copy skips the preview entirely and puts the finished GIF straight on your clipboard. Otherwise, drag it out of the preview into Slack or an email, or save it to a file. A GIF too large to copy saves itself and opens in File Explorer instead of quietly failing.
🎬
End card
Optionally append a 3-second branded end card to the finished GIF. Off by default. Recipients can trim it off either way.
🌗
Light, Dark, or System appearance
GifMint follows your Windows theme by default, or pin it to Light or Dark from the control panel. The whole app repaints live, no restart.
🔒
100% on your PC
Every recording is captured and encoded locally. Nothing is uploaded, ever. No account, no cloud. The only network calls GifMint makes on its own are a weekly update check and, only if you enter one, a business-license check.

Built for everyone
Narrator live regions on async results, a full keyboard path through every window, 44×44px minimum touch targets, Windows High Contrast support, and contrast checked against WCAG 2.1 AA throughout.
GifMint has been on the Mac for a while. This is the Windows port's first real, installable build. The tray app, the capture engine and the accessibility work have all been in progress for a good while, but nobody outside this beta has ever been able to install it until now.
What would help most
Multi-monitor & scaled displays
Recording across two or more monitors, monitors at different DPI scales, or a laptop plugged into an external display. Tell me if a capture lands offset, cropped, or blurry.
Encoding quality
Compare a GIF against what you just watched on screen at a few different frame-rate and resolution combinations. Banding, color shift, or motion that looks worse than expected is exactly what I need to hear.
The install itself
Whether Windows warned you before you could run the installer, whether the tray icon and Start Menu shortcut look right, and whether uninstall leaves anything behind.
Window & area capture
Picking a window from the thumbnail grid, dragging out an area near a screen edge, or resizing your selection: anything that feels off or inconsistent with the Mac build.
Personal use is free forever: no trial timer, no watermarks, no account. If GifMint earns its keep at your job, a one-time business license keeps it supported.
The personal tier is the full app. Buy a business license only if you use GifMint commercially. One seat per computer, paid once, yours for life. Secure checkout via Stripe; your license key is emailed instantly. The same key works on the Mac build.
Download & install
Get set up in about a minute.
Run the installer and GifMint lands in your own user folder: no admin password, no UAC prompt.
Version 1.0.2 beta · GifMint-Setup.exe · about 30 MB · Free updates forever
💻
Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11 · 64-bit
GifMint is a native WinUI 3 app, not a browser-based one: it does not use the Edge WebView2 Runtime the rest of the twoplus11 Windows lineup relies on. Instead it needs the Windows App SDK 1.6 runtime, which the installer carries with it and installs automatically if your PC doesn't already have it: no separate download, no extra step. It also needs the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime; if that's missing, setup stops and tells you before installing anything, with a link to Microsoft's installer.
🔑
No admin rights needed
GifMint installs per-user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\GifMint, so there's no UAC prompt and no argument with your IT department. Uninstall from Settings → Apps → Installed apps like anything else.
🛡️
Windows will almost certainly warn you. Here's the honest story.
This build of GifMint is not code-signed yet, so when you run the installer you should expect a blue "Windows protected your PC" box naming an Unknown publisher. Not a maybe, an almost-certainly. That's normal for a fresh beta installer, not a sign anything is wrong with this specific download.

FAQ
Common questions.
Is GifMint really free?
Personal use is free forever: every capture mode, unlimited recordings, no account, no trial timer, no watermarks. If you use GifMint at work, a one-time $5 business license per computer keeps it supported.
Does GifMint upload my recordings anywhere?
No. Every recording is captured and encoded entirely on your PC. Nothing you record ever leaves your computer. There's no account and no usage analytics. The only requests GifMint makes on its own are a weekly check for a new version (which sends the app version, and can be turned off) and, only if you enter one, a business-license check.
What can I capture?
Your full screen, a single application window (pick it from a searchable thumbnail grid), or a custom rectangular area you drag out yourself, complete with a live width × height readout while you drag.
Is there a recording time limit?
No hard limit: GifMint records until you stop it (press Win Shift G again, or use the Stop button in the floating HUD), or until an auto-stop timer you set fires. Longer, higher-resolution recordings make bigger files, which is exactly what the frame-rate and resolution warning is there to flag before you start.
Why does the installer say "Unknown publisher"?
Because this beta build isn't code-signed yet, not because anything is wrong with the file. Click More info → Run anyway. See the install section above for the full explanation, and only do this for a link you got directly from me.
Does GifMint need WebView2?
No. That's one real difference from the rest of the twoplus11 Windows apps. GifMint is a native WinUI 3 app, so instead it needs the Windows App SDK 1.6 runtime, which the installer bundles and installs automatically, and the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime, which it checks for and will ask you to install first if it's missing.
How do I update GifMint?
Open the control panel and click Updates in the footer. GifMint checks automatically about once a week too, and badges that button when a new version is out. You can turn the automatic check off from the same panel. Your settings and any business license carry over.
How is this different from the Mac version?
Same idea, same reveal-nothing-to-the-cloud guarantee. The capture and encoding engine was rebuilt on native Windows APIs (Windows Graphics Capture, WinUI 3) rather than macOS ones. This beta doesn't yet have every Mac feature: MP4 export and the "shrink to a size limit" tool are Mac-only for now. A business license key works on both builds either way.
Where do my settings live, and what does uninstalling remove?
Preferences and your license key live in your own Windows user profile. Uninstalling removes the app from %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\GifMint. Nothing is written outside your user account, and nothing goes in the registry beyond the normal uninstall entry.
Can I try it before buying a business license?
Yes. The personal tier is the complete app, with no trial timer or watermark. Download it, use it as much as you like, and only buy a business license if you decide to use GifMint at work.
