Opening the app the first time
Open the DMG and drag Viddl into Applications, then double-click it. If macOS says it can't verify the developer, go to
System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You only do this once.

Is this legal?
Downloading videos for personal use is legal in most jurisdictions. Always respect copyright and a platform's Terms of Service. Don't redistribute downloaded content.
Does Viddl require an internet connection?
Yes, to download videos. Business license keys are validated online once per day — if you're offline, Viddl uses a 72-hour cached validation grace period. Personal use needs no license at all.
How does the business license work?
Buy a seat for each computer that uses Viddl at work ($29 each, one-time). You get a single license key by email — paste it into Viddl on each machine and you're done. Each machine claims a seat under its own name, so you can see who holds what and free a seat anytime when a computer is retired. Personal use needs no key at all.
What happens when YouTube changes things?
Viddl uses yt-dlp under the hood. Clicking Update yt-dlp in the app's footer is usually all that's needed to fix any extraction issues. Updates are free forever.
How does Smart Trim work?
Viddl uses the SponsorBlock community database to identify and remove sponsor segments, intros, outros, and other filler from YouTube videos — before the file is saved to your disk.
How do I set up the Chrome extension?
The Chrome extension comes bundled with Viddl — no separate download needed. When you launch the app for the first time, a setup banner appears with step-by-step instructions for loading it into Chrome. Once installed, press ⌘⇧Y on any video page to send the URL straight to Viddl — no copy-paste.
Can Viddl download from Netflix, Disney+, or Spotify?
No. These services use DRM (Digital Rights Management) encryption that yt-dlp cannot legally bypass. Viddl works with platforms that stream video openly — YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, Twitch, and 1,800+ others. Spotify audio is also DRM-protected; SoundCloud and Bandcamp are not.
How do I update Viddl itself?
Re-download the latest Viddl.dmg from this page, open it, and drag the new Viddl into your Applications folder — it will replace the old one. Your preferences and history carry over automatically. For download engine issues (YouTube 403 errors, etc.) you usually only need to click Update yt-dlp in the app footer, which is much faster than a full app update.
