Windows beta. Squishr for Windows is complete, signed, and new to this platform. You are among the first people running it, so tell me how it goes.

Video compressor for WindowsGuaranteed size100% on device

Drop a video. Make it fit.

Tap a target (Discord's 10 MB, WhatsApp's 16 MB, email's 20 MB, or any size you type) and Squishr compresses your video to a file that is guaranteed to land under the limit. Entirely on your PC. Nothing is ever uploaded. Available in 13 languages.

v1.0.10 beta · Windows 10 (1809+) & 11 · 64-bit · Installs without admin rights · No account

01  How it works

Three steps, then it fits.

Drop in your video
Drag a video onto the window from File Explorer, or a whole folder for a batch. Ctrl O to browse, Ctrl V to paste files copied in File Explorer.
Tap a target
Discord (10 MB), WhatsApp (16 MB), Gmail (25 MB), iMessage (100 MB), Telegram (2 GB), or type any size. An honest quality meter shows how it will look before you wait, with one-tap fixes if the target is tight.
Compress
Squishr works out the exact bitrate from the video's real duration, encodes it, then verifies the actual byte size and automatically re-encodes smaller if needed. The file always fits, and your original is never touched.

02  Features

Never a 10.2 MB failed upload again.

One focused window that does the math other tools won't, without ever sending your video to the cloud.

Guaranteed to fit
Squishr computes the exact bitrate from your video's real duration, encodes it, then verifies the actual byte size of the output and automatically re-encodes smaller if it's over. The file always lands under the limit.
Verified byte size
Real targets, real limits
Discord (10 MB), WhatsApp (16 MB), Email (20 MB), Gmail (25 MB), Discord Nitro Basic (50 MB), iMessage (100 MB), Signal (100 MB), Discord Nitro (500 MB), Telegram (2 GB), or any custom size you type. Targets use the strictest common interpretation of each cap, so uploads never bounce.
10 presets
An honest quality meter
Before you wait for an encode, a meter predicts how the video will look at that size (Great, Decent, Rough, or Won't look good) with one-tap fixes: drop to 720p, cap 30 fps, shrink or drop the audio, or trim it shorter.
Before encoding
Trim on a filmstrip
Drag handles on a filmstrip to keep just the moment. A shorter clip means dramatically better quality at the same target, and the meter and estimate update live. Fully keyboard-driven.
Copy, then paste the file
When the squish finishes, hit Copy and the finished video lands on your clipboard. Ctrl V it straight into Discord, Teams, email, or a File Explorer window.
Paste anywhere
Batch everything
Drop any number of videos (or a whole folder) and compress them all to one target, two at a time, with per-file progress. Show any original in File Explorer, in any state.
The hard files work
Rotated iPhone portrait video stays portrait, HDR is tone-mapped so colors don't wash out, 120 fps screen recordings get capped when the budget is tight, 5.1 surround is downmixed, GIFs become tiny MP4s, and variable-frame-rate captures keep their timing.
HDR · 120 fps · 5.1 · GIF
H.264 or HEVC
Output is a standard MP4 (H.264 + AAC) that plays everywhere by default, with HEVC available for smaller files on newer devices. Encoding is a byte-precise two-pass pass over the video. There's no Apple-style hardware encoder on Windows, so it leans on CPU time rather than a GPU, but the size guarantee is identical either way.
Two-pass precision
Non-destructive
Your originals are never modified. Every compress writes a new file next to the original or into a folder you choose, and existing files are never overwritten: there is no Replace switch, and no output can take the name of a video sitting in your queue.
Originals untouched
Unlimited, no strings
No watermarks, no daily caps, no queues, no file-size ceilings on input. Compress as many videos as you like, forever, for free.
100% on your PC
Nothing is uploaded, ever. No account, no cloud, no usage analytics. Web compressors make you upload your video to someone else's server; Squishr never does. The only network calls are the optional license check and update check.
Privacy
Updates itself, safely
Squishr quietly checks about once a week and badges the update button when a newer version is out (never a pop-up), and nothing auto-installs. Click it and Squishr downloads the installer, checks its signature and version before running anything, installs over itself, and reopens.
13 languages
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (BR), Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean. Squishr follows your Windows display language automatically, and you can pin a different one from the language button.
Localized
Built for everyone
Fully keyboard-driven (add with Ctrl O, paste with Ctrl V, move between targets and trim handles from the keyboard) with Windows High Contrast support, Reduce Motion honored throughout, and measured WCAG 2.1 AA contrast in light and dark.
WCAG 2.1 AA
03  Fits these limits

04  Beta

You're testing an unlisted Windows build.

Squishr for Windows has been through ten releases already (languages, batch, trim, an accessibility pass), but this page has never been announced or linked anywhere.

What would help most

Your own videos, real targets

Phone clips, screen recordings, whatever you'd actually try to fit into Discord or WhatsApp. Tell me if the quality meter matched what you saw.

Drag & drop, for real

From File Explorer, the desktop, a network drive. Single files, multi-select, whole folders, and the copy-to-clipboard round trip into Discord or Teams.

The install itself

Whether SmartScreen let you through, whether the shortcut and taskbar icon look right, whether uninstall leaves anything behind.

Anything that looks or sounds wrong

Clipped text, an odd translation, a dialog you couldn't reach or close with the keyboard, anything a screen reader mis-announces.

Download Squishr for Windows, Free

Version 1.0.10 beta · Squishr-Setup.exe · about 104 MB · Free updates forever

Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11 · 64-bit
Everything Squishr needs (including the FFmpeg engine that powers the compression) is bundled inside the installer, which is why it's a bigger download than a typical twoplus11 app. It does use the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime to draw its interface, which ships with Windows 11 and reaches almost every Windows 10 machine through Windows Update. On the rare PC without it, Squishr will say so on launch and Microsoft's free installer is a one-click fix.
No admin rights needed
Squishr installs per-user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Squishr, so there's no UAC prompt and no argument with your IT department. Uninstall from Settings → Apps → Installed apps like anything else.
Windows may warn you the first time. Here's the honest story.
Squishr is Authenticode-signed, so the publisher shows as a real, verified name rather than "Unknown publisher." But signing alone does not switch SmartScreen off: Microsoft builds reputation per file, and a brand-new build starts with none. Until this exact file has been downloaded enough times, you may still see a blue "Windows protected your PC" box.
  1. Click More info
  2. Check the publisher name shown
  3. Click Run anyway
I'd rather tell you this up front than have you wonder. Never click through that box for software you don't trust the source of.

08  FAQ

Common questions.

Is Squishr really free?
Personal use is free forever: every target, unlimited files, no account, no trial timer, no watermarks. If you use Squishr at work, free for commercial use at work too, with no license to buy.
How is the file guaranteed to fit?
Squishr computes the exact bitrate for your target from the video's real duration, encodes with a byte-precise two-pass pass, then verifies the actual byte size of the output. If it's over the limit, Squishr automatically re-encodes smaller. The file always lands under the limit; you'll never see a 10.2 MB "failed to upload" again.
How does the business license work?
Squishr is free for personal and commercial use. No license key needed. If you find it useful at work, you can support development from the tip jar at the bottom of the page.
Does Squishr upload my videos anywhere?
No. Every compress runs entirely on your PC, nothing you open or export is ever uploaded, and there's no account and no usage analytics. The only times Squishr contacts our server are to validate a business license key or to check for updates, which sends the app version. Your video is never involved.
Will it change my original files?
Never. Squishr is non-destructive by design: every compress writes a new file next to your original or into a folder you choose. Existing files are never overwritten. Squishr picks a unique name instead, and no output can take the name of a video already sitting in your queue.
What if my video will look bad at 10 MB?
Squishr tells you before you wait. A quality meter predicts how the video will look at that size (Great, Decent, Rough, or Won't look good) and offers one-tap fixes: drop to 720p, cap 30 fps, shrink or drop the audio, or trim to the moment that matters. A shorter clip is the biggest quality win of all.
What formats can it read and write?
In: almost any video file, such as MOV, MP4, MKV, WebM, AVI, even GIFs (which become tiny MP4s). Out: a standard MP4 (H.264 + AAC) that plays everywhere Discord, WhatsApp and email do, with HEVC available as an opt-in for smaller files on newer devices.
Why 10 MB for Discord?
Discord cut free uploads from 25 MB to 10 MB, and the cap is enforced in bytes: a "10.2 MB" file bounces. Squishr's Discord preset targets the strictest interpretation of the limit and verifies the real byte size, so the upload always goes through. Nitro Basic (50 MB) and Nitro (500 MB) presets are included too.
Why did Windows show a blue "protected your PC" warning?
Because the file is new, not because it's unsigned. SmartScreen builds trust per file over downloads and time, and a fresh build starts from zero. Code signing gives you a verified publisher name in the dialog but does not skip it. Click More info → check the publisher → Run anyway. See the install section for the full explanation.
How do I update Squishr?
It updates itself. Squishr quietly checks about once a week and badges the update button when there's something new, never a pop-up, and you can turn the check off. Click it and Squishr downloads the new installer, checks its signature and version before running anything, installs over itself and reopens. Your settings carry over.
How is this different from the Mac version?
Same guarantee, same targets, same interface. The encoder was rebuilt on Windows codecs. The Mac build tries Apple's hardware encoder first and falls back to a precise two-pass software encode when it isn't available; Windows has no equivalent hardware path, so it always takes that precise two-pass route. Encodes can take a little longer as a result, but the byte-size guarantee is identical. The Mac build also offers an AV1 option and a Faster/Balanced/Best-quality effort choice that this Windows build doesn't have yet. Windows currently offers H.264 and HEVC. A business license key works on both.
Where do my settings live, and what does uninstalling remove?
Preferences sit in %APPDATA%\Squishr and your license key in your Windows user profile. Uninstalling removes the app from %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Squishr; delete those two if you want every trace gone. Nothing is written outside your user account, and nothing goes in the registry beyond the uninstall entry.

Squishr compared with other video compressors on Windows

Most compressors give you a quality slider and let you find out afterwards whether the file came in under the limit. Squishr takes the size as the input and works backwards from it.

Prices and capabilities checked October 2026. Each maker’s own site is the authority on its side of this table.

When to use something else

HandBrake is free and gives you every encoding control there is. If you know the bitrate you want it will hit it better than we will, and it is the right tool for building a library; its own docs actually recommend Constant Quality over chasing a target size. VideoProc Converter AI is a polished paid Windows app that can also aim at a file size. Online compressors are quick but they run on someone else's servers, so you upload your clip, and the free tiers cap how big the input can be. Squishr exists for one narrow job: you have a limit to get under, you do not want to learn what a bitrate is, you do not want to upload a personal clip, and you do not want to try three times.

If this is what you came here to solve

My video is too big to send
Pick the target for wherever it is going (or type a size) and the output lands under it.
I tried compressing it and it is still too big
That is the bitrate-guessing loop. Squishr solves for the size instead of checking after.
I do not want to upload a personal clip to a compression website
It is encoded on your PC; nothing is uploaded and there is no size cap on what goes in.
