Windows beta. Loopr for Windows is complete, signed, and new to this platform. You are among the first people running it, so tell me how it goes.

GIF maker for WindowsStills to GIF100% on device

Turn stills into a looping GIF.

A folder of screenshots, photos, exported frames or design comps. Loopr lines them up, lets you drag to reorder and tune the timing frame by frame, and plays a live preview that shows exactly what you'll export, transparency and all. One click writes a clean, optimized looping GIF. No upload, no account, no watermark, entirely on your PC. Available in 13 languages.

v1.0.0 beta · Windows 10 (1809+) & 11 · 64-bit · Installs without admin rights · No account

01  How it works

Drop. Reorder. Time. Export.

Drop in your stills
Drag a set of images onto the window from File Explorer: PNG, JPG, BMP, TIFF, WebP, even an existing GIF. Or add a whole folder and Loopr imports it as a numbered sequence. Ctrl O to browse, Ctrl Shift O for a folder.
Reorder & time them
Drag frames into place in the filmstrip, or move the focused one with Ctrl+arrows. Set a per-frame delay, or a global delay with Apply to all frames. The fps readout updates live.
Preview it playing
Hit play (Space) and watch the loop at its real timing, or step frame by frame. Pick a background (Clear, White or Black) and the preview shows exactly what you'll export.
Export the GIF
Choose a loop count and an output size, then Export GIF (Ctrl E). It's pinned above the sidebar footer, so it's never below the fold. The GIF never leaves your PC.

02  Features

Everything a good loop needs.

Drop in stills, arrange them, tune the timing, and export, with a preview that never lies and nothing ever leaving your PC.

Drop in any stills
PNG, JPG, BMP, TIFF, WebP, or an existing GIF, added as a single frame. Screenshots, photo bursts, exported frames, design comps: if it's a still image, it becomes a frame.
Many formats
Drag to reorder, fully by keyboard
The filmstrip is a real listbox, not just a drop target: arrows move the selection, Ctrl+arrows move the frame itself, Home/End jump to either end, Delete removes it. A roving tabindex keeps the whole strip to one tab stop, and every move is announced.
Keyboard listbox
Add a folder in one gesture
Point Loopr at a folder and it imports every image inside as a numbered sequence, the common case when frames come straight out of a render or a burst capture.
Ctrl Shift O
Per-frame timing, or all at once
Open a frame's delay popover to override just that one (hold on a title, snap through a transition) or set a global delay and hit Apply to all frames. A live fps readout tells you how fast the loop actually plays.
Live fps
Play/pause preview, true timing
Press Space and watch the loop at its real per-frame speed, not an approximation. Step one frame at a time with the transport controls and frame counter, or jump straight to any frame from the filmstrip.
True timing
Loop count your way
Seamless forever, or a set number of plays: choose infinite, 1×, 3× or 5×. The GIF carries the loop setting with it wherever it's posted.
∞ · 1× · 3× · 5×
Background, WYSIWYG
For frames with transparency, choose Clear to keep it, or flatten onto White or Black. The preview renders the exact pixels you'll export, so there are no surprises after.
Clear · White · Black
Output size scale
Scale the exported GIF down to as little as 10% of the largest frame for a smaller, faster-loading file (handy for chat, email, or a README) while your source stills stay full quality.
Smaller files
Export GIF, always in reach
The export button is pinned above the sidebar footer, not buried at the bottom of a scrolling settings list. It's on screen at every window size the app opens at.
One click
Windows fit & finish
A Mica backdrop, Windows 11 corner rounding, and a title bar that follows System, Light or Dark, repainted natively via DWM, not simulated. Segoe UI Variable throughout, not an inherited Apple font stack.
Native chrome
100% on your PC
Loopr only ever reads the images you add, and everything happens locally: no cloud, no usage analytics, nothing uploaded. The only network calls are the optional license check and the update check.
Privacy
13 languages
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (BR), Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean. Loopr follows your Windows display language automatically, and the picker shows language tags rather than flags.
Localized
Self-updates in place
Loopr checks for updates, downloads the new installer, verifies its Authenticode signature and that its version matches what was advertised, then installs over itself and reopens. Any check that fails deletes the download and points you at the download page instead.
Signature-verified
Built for everyone
Fully keyboard-driven (add frames with Ctrl O, export with Ctrl E) with a skip link past the sidebar, live announcements for reorders, Windows High Contrast support, and measured WCAG 2.1 AA contrast in both light and dark.

04  Beta

You're testing the first Windows build.

Loopr has been on the Mac for a while and is now at v1.2.3 there. This Windows build is newer and sits at v1.0.0. It's feature-complete against the Mac app's original 1.0.0, rebuilt on Windows APIs, but it hasn't caught up to a few of the newest Mac-only additions yet (reverse and ping-pong playback, palette capping, sorting the strip by name/date/size, splitting an existing GIF back into its frames). The timing model, the WYSIWYG preview and the pure-Pillow encoder all carry over exactly.

What would help most

Drag & drop, for real

From File Explorer, from the desktop, from a search-results list, from a network drive. Single files, multi-select, whole folders.

GIFs you actually make

Your own screenshots, renders, photo bursts. Does the exported file play at the speed the preview promised? Does the background match what you picked?

The install itself

Whether SmartScreen let you through, whether the shortcut and taskbar icon look right, whether uninstall leaves anything behind.

Anything that looks wrong

Clipped text, an odd translation, a control you couldn't reach with the keyboard, a slider that doesn't feel right.

07  Download & install

Get set up in about a minute.

Run the installer and Loopr lands in your own user folder: no admin password, no UAC prompt, nothing else to install.

Download Loopr for Windows, Free

Version 1.0.0 beta · Loopr-Setup.exe · about 15 MB · Free updates forever

Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11 · 64-bit
Everything Loopr needs is inside the installer: no Python, no runtime to chase down. It does use the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime to draw its interface, which ships with Windows 11 and reaches almost every Windows 10 machine through Windows Update. On the rare PC without it, Loopr will say so on launch and Microsoft's free installer is a one-click fix.
No admin rights needed
Loopr installs per-user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Loopr, so there's no UAC prompt and no argument with your IT department. Uninstall from Settings → Apps → Installed apps like anything else.
Windows may warn you the first time. Here's the honest story.
Loopr is Authenticode-signed, so the publisher shows as a real, verified name rather than "Unknown publisher." But signing alone does not switch SmartScreen off: Microsoft builds reputation per file, and a brand-new build starts with none. Until this exact file has been downloaded enough times, you may still see a blue "Windows protected your PC" box.
  1. Click More info
  2. Check the publisher name shown
  3. Click Run anyway
I'd rather tell you this up front than have you wonder. Never click through that box for software you don't trust the source of.

08  FAQ

Common questions.

Is Loopr really free?
Personal use is free forever: the whole app, unlimited GIFs, no account, no trial timer, no watermarks. It is free for commercial use at work too, with no license to buy and no account.
What can I drop into Loopr?
Any set of still images (PNG, JPG, BMP, TIFF, WebP). You can also drop in an existing GIF and Loopr will add it as a single frame (splitting an animated GIF back into its component frames the way the Mac build can is on the roadmap but hasn't landed on Windows yet). Drag frames around in the filmstrip to reorder, or add a whole folder as a numbered sequence in one gesture.
How do I control the speed?
Every frame has its own delay you can override, and there's a global delay with an Apply to all frames button and a live fps readout. The play/pause preview uses your true per-frame timing, so what you see is exactly how the exported GIF will play.
Can I keep transparency?
Yes. For frames with transparency, choose a background of Clear (keeps it), White, or Black. The preview shows exactly what you'll get (it's fully WYSIWYG) so there are no surprises after export.
Can I make it loop forever?
Pick the loop count you want: infinite, 1×, 3× or 5×. Infinite is the default, so most GIFs just loop seamlessly.
How do I make the file smaller?
Use the output size scale (it steps the GIF down to as little as 10% of the largest frame's dimensions) and use fewer or shorter frames where you can. (Capping the color palette, a bigger lever on flat art and screenshots, is on the Mac build and hasn't landed on Windows yet.)
Does Loopr upload my images anywhere?
No. Everything happens entirely on your PC: your images are never uploaded, and there is no account and no usage analytics. The only time Loopr contacts our server is to check for updates, which sends the app version.
Does Loopr use ffmpeg?
No. GIF encoding is pure Python/Pillow, built right into the app: there's nothing else to install, no ffmpeg, no command line.
Can I preview frame by frame?
Yes, alongside play/pause there's frame-by-frame stepping with a counter, and the filmstrip itself is a real listbox you can use to jump straight to any frame.
What languages does Loopr support?
Loopr is available in 13 languages, and it auto-detects your Windows display language on first launch. The picker shows language tags (EN, PT-BR, ZH) rather than flags: Windows renders flag emoji as bare letters, and a flag is the wrong signifier for a language regardless.
Why did Windows show a blue "protected your PC" warning?
Because the file is new, not because it's unsigned. SmartScreen builds trust per file over downloads and time, and a fresh build starts from zero. Code signing gives you a verified publisher name in the dialog but does not skip it. Click More info → check the publisher → Run anyway. See the install section for the full explanation.
How do I update Loopr?
It updates itself. Loopr checks for a new version and, when there is one, downloads the installer, verifies its signature and version before running anything, installs over itself and reopens. If any of those checks fail it deletes the download and sends you here instead. Your settings carry over.
How is this different from the Mac version?
Same engine, same timing model, same guarantees. This build was written against Windows APIs rather than translated from the Mac one. The visible differences: Windows gets a native Mica backdrop and a title bar that follows System, Light or Dark via DWM, where the Mac uses Cocoa vibrancy. And because this port started from Mac Loopr 1.0.0, a few of the newest Mac-only additions (reverse and ping-pong playback, palette capping, sorting the strip by name/date/size, and splitting an existing GIF back into its frames) haven't landed on Windows yet.
Where do my settings live, and what does uninstalling remove?
Preferences sit in %APPDATA%\Loopr. Uninstalling removes the app from %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Loopr; delete those two if you want every trace gone. Nothing is written outside your user account, and nothing goes in the registry beyond the uninstall entry.
